Informal education

Science the Earth is currently working with community members and Real Time STEAM to conduct research on the efficacy of informal STEAM education. This project is looking at the impact of interactive science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) panels that are delivered to lay audiences at large comic book themed conventions and festivals. This research will help in the discovery of how discussions concerning STEAM and popular culture influence members of the community to pursue careers in STEAM and how these conversation impact their perception of STEAM subjects and those who research them.

This project has connected community members with professors, post docs, graduate students, industry professionals, politicians, and famous screen writers. Click here to read about informal STEAM education at Phoenix Fan Fusion (formerly Phoenix Comicon and Comic Fest)

In addition, Science the Earth has teamed up with the Central Arizona Grotto and Grand Canyon Caverns to deliver informal cave science discussions with cave enthusiasts and tourists. This includes informal discussions during cave exploration over 200 feet under the ground! Click here to learn more about cave research and click here to learn about ongoing cave conservation.
