History
Science The Earth started as a travel blog that followed Dr. Bradley Lusk as he visited research centers, companies, and universities in over 30 countries around the world. Since returning from the Earth Tour, Science The Earth has become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
It all started with a trip to Las Vegas. I had been working on publishing a paper with a student from Pakistan and working in the lab with a student from India. A week before they were to head back to their home countries, they had planned to visit Sin City due to its proximity to Tempe, AZ and the fact that both of them lived in dry counties (or countries) where alcohol and gambling are outlawed. Their driver dropped out at the last minute and I was asked to replace him. Being the spontaneous person I am, I said yes, dropped everything, and filled my tank!
Once in Vegas, I was invited by my Indian friend to attend her wedding in India and by my Pakistani friend to give a presentation in Pakistan after the wedding. And then the thought occurred to me- all of us were in Las Vegas together, despite our fundamentally different backgrounds, because we had all met through the pursuit of human knowledge. Science and discovery had brought us together to form a community for the sake of humanity. If logic can bring India, Pakistan, and the United States of America together- it can bring anyone together! (We scienced pretty hard that weekend.)
This is a message worth sharing.
